IN MY OPINION

The Multidimensional Alan Borck
By Charles Alan Borck, Founder, RLC Electronics

Charles Alan Borck, founder of RLC Electronics in Mt. Kisco, NY, died on March 1 at 87.

No one who ever did business with Alan Borck would ever consider him indecisive or indirect. While he was a man of few words, they were always what he believed to be the truth, like them or not. Alan was a stand-up guy, and a very bright one as well.

C-Band Additions to Family of Digital Phase Shifters
Two new additions to the company’s family of digital phase shifters for radar, communication and electronic warfare (EW) applications have been released. The phase shifters facilitate easy implementation in communication antennas, phased array radars, weather radars, and EW receivers. The 3.5 to 6.0 GHz GaAs pHEMT 4-Bit and 6-Bit digital phase shifters meet the high performance requirements of communications and radar system manufacturers, optimizing for fast switching speed, low phase error, and serial or parallel control capability. The MAPS-010145 is a 4-Bit digital phase shifter housed in a 4mm 24-lead PQFN package. It provides 360º phase shift range with a step size of 22.5º. It is controlled with a single +5.0V serial or parallel control line. Its insertion loss is 5.0 dB, with a low +/-1.0 dB attenuation variation and +/-2.5º phase accuracy over the 3.5 to 6.0 GHz frequency range. The MAPS-010165 is a 6-Bit digital phase shifter housed in a 4mm 24-lead PQFN package. It provides 360º phase shift range with a step size of 5.625º. It is controlled with a single +5.0V serial or parallel control line. Insertion loss is 5.0 dB, with a low +/-0.8 dB attenuation variation and +/-5.2º phase accuracy over the 3.5 to 6.0 GHz frequency range.

High Current D, Single and Three Phase AC Filters

A new product line of high current DC, single and three phase AC filters for applications requiring higher common mode attenuation has been released. Unlike standard high current off the shelf filters, these high performance, dual stage AC and DC filters were designed with much higher inductance common mode coils to reduce excessive common mode emissions generated by high power SCRs (Silicon-Controlled Rectifiers), and meet the stringent attenuation requirements of nuclear power stations and MIL-STD-461F. These filters are ideal for military, heavy industrial and commercial applications, nuclear power stations, alternative power sources and generators.
