AR Sponsors Young Engineering Team, Cybersonics Team 103
Helping Shape The Industry’s Future
Four members of the Cybersonics Technology Team of Palisades High school, presented at AR’s business meeting, followed by the annual company picnic this past July 1, 2016.
Cassie Beck, Cybersonics Team 103 Mentor, told Donald Shepherd (‘Shep’), CEO of AR/RF Microwave Instrumentation, “Thank You so much for more than 20 years of support for our young Cybersonics technology team. We wouldn’t be where we are today without you.”
Shep simply said, “The pleasure is ours.” Supporting young minds, without question, is a major priority today, and plays a huge role in shaping the future of the electronics industry.
Shep has been fostering intelligent young individuals through supporting Cybersonics financially as well as giving some of the young people an opportunity to apply their skills on the job at AR in Souderton, PA. Several members of the Cybersonics team have held intern positions and some have gone on to work full time for AR!
The team also brought along their award winning robot that was recently used in a competition held at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia, PA. The team won the Creativity Award sponsored by Xerox during this event. Cybersonics recognized that this year’s game was played in a full hemisphere and derived a unique solution. Their automated aiming system utilized an Xbox Kinect to accurately find the target, and they used a steel spring activated by a custom built clutch to shoot the game ball. Cybersonics was also recognized for their strong business plan as they won the entrepreneurship award. The event judges stated Cybersonics strong recruitment effort and involvement in the US Future Ready Schools movement all aid in sustaining the program well into the future.
Cybersonics Technology Team is comprised of a group of 30 students from Palisades High School in Kintnersville, Bucks County, PA. Joining the FIRST Robotics Competition as Team 103, the team started a tradition dedicated to excellence which has continued into the new millennium. Cybersonics focuses on technology based interests, communications, web design, graphic design, business and even journalism. Team 103 has been outstandingly successful in its twenty year tour, winning myriads of awards in all areas of competition. The pinnacle of their achievement was reached in 2003, when the Chairman’s Award was received, the highest honor bestowed upon a team. This award is reserved for those who truly embody the vision of Dean Kamen: becoming the epitome of gracious professionalism and role-models for others. www.cybersonics.org
