The VTX-6389G5 helix traveling wave tube operates from 7.9 to 8.4 GHz and delivers an RF output of 2.5 kW and a gain of 49 dB. It is one of the company’s multi-band TWT amplifiers designed for use in airborne pods, for which they are temperature and vibration qualified. The amplifiers are rugged for use in military aircraft, and a power supply can drive multiple TWTs. Frequency bands covered include E to J (typically E/F, G/H, H/I/J), with an RF output power of 250 W, depending on the chosen TWT. They require a power supply providing 3 Phase, 400 Hz 115 VAC, and remote control is available with on/off functions and fault sensing with auto-reset. Cooling is delivered by forced air from integral fans. A typical example is 10″ in diameter and weighs no more than 25 kilograms. Custom configurations are also available, including various mechanical configurations, electrical and RF connections, and dual-stage depressed collector.
